It’s that time of the year again where we dig out those winter clothes, ski gloves, hats, scarves and leggings and head to the mountains for a bit of snow sport!
I’m off to Gatwick Airport tonight to stay over at Yotel instead of getting up at 3am and struggling to get across London on time! I’ll be up bright and early to catch a 7am flight to Innsbruck, Austria.
Summer on the Austrian Slopes
Some of the more vigilant amongst you will remember that I took on the #InAustria challenge back in the summer with mountain biking, hiking and visiting a husky ranch!
You can watch my video from the trip below.
Fatbiking?
This time around I’m heading back to Tirol (Kirchberg, Brixen, Fieberbrunn), #InAustria (see what I did there!?) to experience the challenge of the winter season!
In the summer we threw ourselves downhill on mountain bike tackling the Lisi-Osl-Trail, this time we’re starting out riding in the snow on fatbikes!
I’d never heard of it either but it looks like fun!
Snowboarding
If I survive the fatbiking, I’ll be hitting the slopes snowboarding at Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang (Fieberbrunn) and SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental (Brixen), Austria’s largest ski area with 280 km of piste perfect for carving your snowboard on. The ski area has over 70 huts dotted around the mountains, perfect for when you need to rest those weary leg muscles and recharge with a spot of lunch! We’ll also be visiting an igloo village and admiring the stunning view from the viewing platform at Hohe Salve.
This being Austria, expect plenty of schnapps tasting, live music and maybe even a terrifying Tobogganing session!
After all that exercise we’ll be relaxing (and recovering!) at our hotel, the Adeo Alpin hotel in St. Johann.
What Else Is Happening #InAustria?
There will be plenty of other bloggers taking on the challenge so check out the hashtag on social media. Here’s what you’ll get a taste of:
– segway ride
– horse-drawn sled ride
– dog sled ride
– lama trekking
– igloo village
– more ski & snowboard
