In the last few months I’ve been a bit distracted.
A bit offline, not blogging or posting to social media as often as usual. Sometimes, for your own stress levels, sanity, you need to take some time offline. And sometimes in life there are more important things to deal with…
I’m being a grown up!
The reason? I’m being a grown up! I’m buying my own place and I’ve been up to my neck in mortgage brokers, solicitors and the like on top of organising BlogStock back in September.
So I’m taking a big step, well a big step for someone who’s frightened to death by committing and losing flexibility in life. I think travel does that to you?
It’s taken a while. I’ve been watching friends from the sidelines, settling down… getting a dog, getting married, having kids, then more kids. Now it’s my turn to get a base of my own… But no, it doesn’t mean marriage, kids or even a dog (the flat’s far too small!) as much as I want one (French bulldog or pug I think)! What it does mean is that I’ll finally have a place of my own to return to from travel and what better base than London?!It also means that I’ll have a whole new area of London to explore!
What I’m looking forward to
Why am I doing it now? Well I’ve been living in Zone 2 north west London for 4-5 years with my girlfriend. Although the location is great to get into London, like lots of places in London, the flat is tiny and expensive! Plus I struggle to sleep with the noise from the road below. It’s got to the point where we need more space for our own sanity, moving and renting again doesn’t make sense because buying is cheaper for me. So, we’re moving South of the river (just) so expect lots of posts, videos and photos.
A few things I’m looking forward to when I move in:
- More space to shoot YouTube videos!
- Being able to get a good nights sleep without being kept awake by traffic
- A decent sized kitchen to cook in
- More space to blog
- The pub being a one minute walk
- The park being a one minute walk
- Living beside the river (Thames)
- My home being bigger than the hotel rooms I stay in
- A balcony to remind me of travel
- A dishwasher, for obvious reasons
- No more visits to laundrette or communal washer/drier
- More space for souvenirs!
London can be an incredibly difficult city to live in but also an amazing one if you give it time. Hopefully my next move will make it a little easier and at least I’ll get a little more sleep before those awful 5am journeys to the Gatwick airport!
So how about you?
How have you handled times where you just didn’t have time for blogging for whatever reason, did you find a break was a good thing?
