One of my favourite places to stop off for a quick bite in Borough Market is Porteña. Whether I’ve been exploring the market or been out for drinks in one of the pubs around London Bridge, it’s always a great option.
Porteña was originally setup by three friends who were looking to bring traditional Argentinian food to the UK using the finest quality ingredients and what better place to begin than Borough Market?
If like me you’ve spent a bit of time exploring Argentina and South America, you’re probably a big fan of the Empanada. In London it isn’t that common to find anywhere that actually sells them, you might get them on the menu of an expensive Argentinian restaurant but no where that does them as a small bite to eat over a beer.

So, if you find yourself in or around London Bridge it’s well worth sampling a couple of Porteña’s empanadas along with a cold bottle of Quilmes, the most popular beer in Buenos Aires.
I hadn’t been back to Porteña for a while, ever since I tweeted an instagram shot and recommended for people to visit, one twitter followed decided to check the place out and tweeted back to say they loved it (wish I could find the tweet!).
This time round we picked up a jar of Chimichurri, an Argentinian sauce of chopped parsley, minced garlic, olive oil, oregano, wine vinegar. You’ll also find Dulce de Leche along with range of desserts on offer behind the counter.
What I like about Porteña is that it’s straight forward street food and you can have as little or as much as you like. It’s one of a small but increasing number of food stalls that are actually open in the evening at Borough Market (it’s open until 11pm Tues – Sat).
