Paris has been described with many a cliche and if you look hard enough you may find a few but Paris can be something different to everyone. From it’s world famous landmarks, to small romantic cafes down side streets and alley’s it’s hard not to love the Paris poetic appeal.
For anyone on short visit to this famous European city here are our must-see things to do.
1. Eiffel Tower
It’s impossible to visit Paris and not see the Eiffel tower. Booking in advance is highly recommended and you can take the lift right to the top or stop off at the second level. The tower gets very crowded in peak months, so arriving as soon as it opens is a good way to see the tower in relative calm.
2. Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees
The main avenue of the Champs Elysees is where the Tour de France ends each year and is lined with upmarket shops and cafes. At the top of the street is the iconic Arc De Triomphe, where all the main roads of Paris converge.
3. Louvre
One of the most famous art galleries in the world, and home to the Mona Lisa. The best way to see the main sights is to hire one of the audio guides at the reception. There will more than likely be a substantial wait to see the main exhibits in the museum.
4. Sacre Coeur
The church of Sacre Coeur is a beautiful building in its own right, and is equally worth visiting to take advantage of the spectacular views back over the city.
5. Moulin Rouge
The Moulin Rouge nightclub has lost none of its appeal over the years and although it now caters mainly to tourists, it is a typically Parisian and very enjoyable night out.
6. Flea Markets
Every weekend both tourists and locals flock to the flea markets to browse through the eclectic items on offer and try to bag a bargain. The largest and best known market is at Porte de Clignancourt.
7. Musee D’Orsay
The Musee D’Orsay is on the banks of the Seine, just opposite the Tuilleries gardens. It is home to the world’s best collection of Impressionist paintings, including world famous paintings by Monet, Degas, Renoir, Cezanne and many more.
