When I heard about the opportunity to visit Melbourne and the surrounding area I had flashbacks to a road trip I took around six years ago.
I remember the stunningly beautiful coastal drive, the landscapes and fascinating wildlife roaming freely. I was keen to visit again but this time as well as discovering what Melbourne has to offer I’ll get the opportunity to explore Phillip Island, somewhere I’ve never ventured before.
Discovering the region
The trip consists of five bloggers with different areas of expertise discovering the Victoria region, we’ll be covering our experiences on social media channels using the #melbournetouring hashtag. You can checkout an overview of the trip on iAmbassador. I’m looking forward to meeting the local wildlife, sampling the local beer and exploring what the area has to offer.
Live Blogging Victoria
From the 21st of November I’ll be live blogging Melbourne and Phillip Island. I’m looking for plenty of interaction on the trip so please send me your tips, experiences and thoughts. I’d be interested in hearing your experiences in this region, what you thought and any quirky tips and advice. So feel free to add a comment via the live blogging page on Google +, by tweeting at me or on Facebook.
My Trip
I’d describe the trip as independent wildlife, ecotourism and adventure, the main ways that I enjoy traveling. The itinerary is packed with all three elements, it’s definitely going to be an interesting, entertaining and exciting experience.
Day 1
- Melbourne
Day 2
- Meeting kangaroos and Koalas in the wild
- Dinner in Melbourne
Day 3
- Driving from Melbourne to Phillip Island
- Pelican feeding
- Surfing Lesson at Smith’s beach, this sounds like it’s going to be lots of fun but chilly!
- Go Karting at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. The island is host to stages of the World Superbike Championship, the Australian Motorcycle Grand and V8 Supercar Championship, when the circuit has no races on it’s open to Go Karting.
- Watch the Australian V8 Supercars race
- Dinner at Rusty Water Brewery Restaurant and Bar. I’m looking forward to sampling the local beer here.
- Visit The Nobbies, a beautiful coast area with stunning lookout points. I’ll have the chance to see the second largest Australian Fur Seal colony.
- Visit the Night Penguin Parade, the third largest visited natural attraction in Australia.
- Visit to the Koala Conservation Centre, which was established to protect the koala population on Phillip Island from human dangers. I’ll have the chances to encounter koalas amongst the tree tops from elevated boardwalks and learn all about them and their natural habitat.
- Drive to Gippsland, a unique area where five rivers end their journey to the sea and edged with the finest beaches of golden sand.
- Drive on to Cape Liptrap Coastal Park
- Check in to Venus Bay Eco Retreat
- Continue drive to Wilson’s Promontory, the southernmost point of the Australian mainland. Granite headlands, forest, fern and mountains line the 130km coastline.
Day 6
- Return to Melbourne
So there it is, a rough outline of my #MelbourneTouring trip. I’m looking forward to exploring the vibrant and cultural experience of Melbourne the getting hold of the car keys and driving out to Phillip Island. I’ll be experience some local food and drink as well as staying in some superb and unique accommodation along the way.
A Brief Stop in Brunei
We will be stopping over in Brunei for two days to explore the country that situated on the island of Borneo, I’m intrigued to see what it’s like! After discovering Brunei we will then be boarding the inaugural Royal Brunei Airlines Dreamliner flight, it should be a very interesting flight experience from what I’ve been told about the inflight experience.
I’ll have wi-fi throughout the trip so feel free to drop me a message, reply, tweet etc. You can follow the #MelbourneTouring hashtag to follow the trip.
