Way back in 2006 TravMonkey was born out of a passion for travel and a desire to spill all the knowledge that I had aquired when traveling. In those days the online travel blogging community seemed pretty tiny compared to where we are today, to me it seemed like there were only a handful of sites regularly publishing. Fast forward six years and there seems to be a new travel blog popping up almost every day. Back in 2006 it was much easier to be original, come up with great unique headlines and engaging content but now it do seem like many are happy to cover the same well trodden travel topics again.

Blogging Roots

TravMonkey.com functioned much like a blog in it’s earlier days but I soon realised I wanted to take it in a different direction. The site moved from the traditional blog format of diary entries to more magazine style articles. In a way the site lost it’s personal voice but benefited from providing more useful digestible information for users to take away. It became more professional and as a result less personal.

I have missed the early days of being able to project my own views and to use the site as a place to sound off or to post offbeat and amusing posts. Well, today sees a return to TravMonkey.com’s blogging roots as we launch the blog area of the site where we can speak our minds, analyse, be offbeat and post about quirky interesting topics. It’s the ability to post these types of content that I have missed over the years and I’m looking forward to getting that voice back as well as introducing the occasional guest posters or two.

Site Re-Design

We’ve come a long way over the years and recently taken a huge leap forward with the redesign of the site that has seen our average user time on site increase to 9 minutes and unique visitors double. We will continue to publish the usually content of travel advice, travel features, reviews and country specific articles from a community of passionate and knowledgable travel writers to our online magazine.

We’re very much looking forward to the new year, 2012 is going to be exciting and I can’t wait to have you along for the ride.
